For decades, Charles Ivy, Willie Dennis, and Delaine Rockette have exemplified dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the City of Oxford through their service in Environmental Services.

Charles Ivy, with an incredible 36 years of service, began his career riding on the back of a garbage truck, steadily advancing through various roles, including overseeing the grass crew, operating the knuckle boom, and driving a flatbed truck. Today, he continues his invaluable contributions as a front-end loader operator, showcasing his steadfast devotion to keeping Oxford clean and beautiful.

Willie Dennis, with 34 and a half years of dedicated service, has been a pillar of excellence within the department. Starting his journey on the grass crew, he spent years cutting grass, trimming weeds, and maintaining trees. His passion and commitment to his work now shine through in his role as caretaker of the city cemetery, where he ensures this cherished space is respectfully maintained for the Oxford community. His dedication has left a lasting impact on both the department and the city.

Delaine Rockette, who has served for 28 years, has brought remarkable versatility to his roles in Environmental Services. From working on the chipper and garbage trucks to driving tractors and operating the leaf truck, Delaine has gained expertise in nearly every aspect of the department. As a supervisor at the scale house and now as a foreman at EVS, his leadership and experience continue to be vital assets.

All three men are Virginia Chrestman Award winners, a fitting recognition of their extraordinary service. Together, they represent the heart and soul of Oxford’s Environmental Services, and their contributions over the years are deeply appreciated and will not be forgotten.
