Welcome to the City of Oxford Building Department
Building, a division of Development Services, is responsible for administering and enforcing building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas codes and erosion control ordinances. We also accept and review residential and commercial permit applications and plans, issue permits, perform inspections, and issue certificates of occupancy or completion. Our building inspectors look at all facets of new construction, remodels and alterations to ensure all codes are met. The Building Department coordinates with the Engineering and Planning departments to make sure that design elements specified in site plans adhere to specific guidelines.
Building guides contractors and homeowners through the process of getting permits, scheduling inspections, and ensuring residential and commercial plans are reviewed by our City Building Official for code compliance. Our mission is to provide the absolute safest atmosphere for citizens and visitors of Oxford with regard to commercial and residential construction projects.
Commercial Building Checklist
A commercial building checklist is a comprehensive tool used to evaluate, maintain, or inspect the safety, structural integrity, and operational status of a property. It helps building managers, investors, and contractors systematically assess critical systems like HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety features to ensure regulatory compliance and prevent costly failures.
Residential Building Checklist
A residential building checklist is a structured, phase-by-step guide used by contractors, homeowners, and building inspectors to track tasks, safety requirements, and code compliance during construction, renovation, or property assessment. It ensures that no critical structural, mechanical, or finishing steps are missed.
Staking Application
A staking application is a formal building department request where a licensed surveyor marks the exact physical footprint of a planned structure or addition onto the actual ground before construction begins. This process ensures the building stays within legal property lines and meets local zoning codes.
Municipal Code of Ordinances
Ordinances passed very recently may not yet be codified, but will be available on the main page.
Building Permit Fee Schedule
A building permit fee schedule is an official pricing list used by city or county governments to calculate the cost of construction, renovation, or demolition permits.
