In a continued effort to support local businesses and improve the downtown experience, the City of Oxford is upgrading its parking system. Traditional single-space parking meters have been replaced by modern, user-friendly pay-by-plate parking kiosks across the Square.

This modernized system is a direct investment in Oxford’s future. Every dollar of parking revenue generated on the Square goes right back into parking in Oxford. These funds pay for parking maintenance, garage bonds and financing future, long-term parking solutions to accommodate our city's continued growth.

Patrons have three options to pay. 1) Use a card or coin at the kiosks. 2) The Passport Parking app. 3) The new text-to-pay feature. Updated signage identifies zones and payment options.

Oxford continues to adjust its parking system to meet demand, offering a range of pricing tiers based on years of usage data, proximity to retail and dining, and other accessibility factors.

City leadership remains committed to preserving free parking. The Water Tower Lot, located just off the Square between South 13th and 11th Streets , provides 131 free spaces available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additional free parking is also offered on Levels 2 through 4 of the Downtown Parking Garage.

Several public lots situated behind City Hall, Something Southern, Harrison Avenue, and North 9th Street offer convenient access at a modest rate of 75 cents per hour. These locations have used a pay‑by‑plate system for several years, and drivers will notice only an upgraded kiosk as part of the latest improvements. The payment process remains unchanged.

A major update is being implemented for on‑street spaces that previously relied on single‑space meters. Removal of these meters will allow all on‑street users to pay by license plate, giving them freedom to move to any space within the paid zone. Standard rates for on‑street spaces will remain at $1.25 per hour.

As a reminder, the interior 1st level of the Parking garage will remain at the $1.00 rate at this time.
